Liverpool fans have suggested that Jan Vertonghen should move to them, following his release from Tottenham Hotspur.
Vertonghen’s departure from Spurs was announced yesterday, with the experienced Belgian now a free agent.
It is not yet clear where Vertonghen will end up, but some Liverpool supporters feel that he could be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool are looking for a new centre-back, as they have just sold Dejan Lovren.
Vertonghen could perform a role as fourth choice at Anfield, with his professionalism and experience potentially valuable to the newly crowned Premier League champions.
If Liverpool were to sign Vertonghen there would have to be question marks over his ability to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system though.
Despite being one of the finest defenders in the league in previous years, Vertonghen showed signs that he was slowing down in his final season with Tottenham, which led to him regularly being overlooked.
With Liverpool playing a high line he may not be the ideal fit, but as a fourth choice and on a free transfer, the 33-year-old may still present a decent option.
