Micah Richards has stated that Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey has ‘come from nowhere’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The 20-year-old is starting to become a regular at Aston Villa and he isn’t looking out of place on the bigger stage.

The Villa academy product was handed his debut as a 17-year-old when the Midlands side were in the Championship – that came against West Brom during the regular season.

Dean Smith was in the dugout then and, from day dot, he has seen something in Ramsey’s boots that has seen him rise from a teenage prospect to someone who is now playing with the best of the best in England’s top-flight.

Over the weekend, Ramsey started in the middle of the park and helped Villa record a 1-0 win at Manchester United.

Richards thinks the ball-carrying expert didn’t look fazed despite playing on such a big stage.

“Young Ramsey as well,” said Richards. “He has come from nowhere. He is going to Old Trafford and he’s not fazed.”

From the three-man midfield Smith plays, Ramsey is the one who is the most attack-minded.

Both him and John McGinn are the ones who drive forward, with Douglas Luiz playing a more shielding role, but that hasn’t stopped him from picking up back-to-back assists in recent games.

Ramsey might not have an assist or goal to his name yet, but his performances are certainly encouraging.

He was arguably Man of the Match during Villa’s 2-0 win against Newcastle last month, before COVID struck, and now he has returned, he is looking better than ever.
