‘Come back’: Some Aston Villa fans react to comments from player they sold in 2015

Aston Villa favourite Christian Benteke was rolling back the years on Monday night when he scored a last-minute winner for Crystal Palace against Brighton.

The 30-year-old came off the bench to score a brilliant first-time volley against Palace’s bitter rivals.

After the game, Benteke was asked whether he has scored more dramatic goals during his career to which he responded by saying: ‘Maybe with Aston Villa, but I am not sure with Crystal Palace’.

The comments have resulted in a positive reaction from the Villa faithful, who were reminiscing about the days he used to rip it up in their colours.

Even though Benteke’s form has fallen off a cliff since he left B6 in 2015, many of the Villa supporters still hold him in high regard.

Some supporters even suggested that they would welcome back the target-man as a squad player if possible.

Villa’s main man is Ollie Watkins, and given how he’s started life in the Midlands, no-one is going to dethrone him from the starting spot.

But from then on, Dean Smith could do with some experience and attacking depth up top, with youngster Keinan Davis and the injured Wesley as his back-up options.
