Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has suggested on the club’s official Twitter page that reported West Bromwich Albion target Dwight Gayle will be at the Magpies next season.

Bruce made the comments about Gayle following Newcastle’s defeat to Liverpool at St. James’ Park on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday.

Gayle scored the goal for the Magpies in their 3-1 loss in the very first minute.

After the match, Newcastle boss Bruce highlighted the injury problems that the striker has had this season, and is hoping to see the 30-year-old in full form after the summer break.

Bruce’s comments will come as a blow to West Brom, who are interested in signing the striker in the summer transfer window, according to a report in The Peterborough Telegraph earlier this month.

Slaven Bilic’s side will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship this campaign.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Gayle made 10 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in the process.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the striker made 34 starts and six substitute appearances in the Championship for West Brom while on loan from the Magpies, scoring 24 goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
