Manchester United and PSG have been told that only the €40m release clause will get Ivan Rakitic.

Manchester United are still on the hunt for January transfers, and Ivan Rakitic had seemingly pledged his commitment to Sevilla for the season.

His president wants to keep the Croatian midfielder, but admits any club who meet his release clause of €40 million will get the player.

Jose Castro said earlier today: “Ivan Rakitic ? He has one and a half year contract in Seville. We will continue. If someone is in a hurry to recruit, he knows that his clause is €40 million.”

PSG were linked with a deal for the star today, and Rakitic himself said he was flattered at the approach.

“I remain faithful to my course of action. Things are going well for me right now. I want to continue like this and even go even higher. I also see all the rumours of the moment, it is a pride to see my name associated with that of a club such as Paris SG.”

Given the potentially substantial figures at play and contract situation, Rakitic would surely be told – pack your bags, if an offer came in for his release clause.

The Croatian has an impressive eight goals and six assists in 17 La Liga games so far this season.

While his price is expensive, put in context against Marouane Fellaini, his potential addition looks a bargain and at 25 he is an ideal age.
