A combined top-10 list of players from La Liga and the Premier League on FIFA 17 featuring Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal stars.
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi
It’s the age old debate – which league is better, La Liga or the Premier League?
During the last ten years of the Champions League there have been two English winners, while Spanish clubs have won the trophy on five occasions.
The Spaniards have certainly been the most dominant in recent years, although this summer has seen a potential power shift, with the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic moving to England.
EA Sports have ranked the top 20 players from both leagues on FIFA 17, and we have made a combined top-10 from those names.
=8) Luka Modric – 89
The Croatian is a class act and his FIFA 17 scores for passing (86) and dribbling (89) are evidence of this.
=8) Sergio Ramos – 89
The highest ranked defender on the list, Ramos scores highly in two departments – strength (83) and defensive ability (87).
=8) Sergio Aguero – 89
The Argentine striker is arguably the Premier League’s finest marksman and he scores highly in three departments – shooting (88), dribbling (89) and pace (89).
=8) Thibaut Courtois – 89
The Belgian is renowned for his safe hands, shown by his rating of 91 in the handling department.
=8) Mesut Ozil – 89
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil
No one scores higher than the German in the passing department (87).
=5) David de Gea – 90
The Spaniard’s reflexes are the best part of his game (90).
=5) Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 90
What Zlatan lacks in pace (72) he makes up for in dribbling (85) and shooting (90).
=5) Gareth Bale – 90
The fastest player in the top-10 (94).
=3) Neymar – 92
Dribbling (95) and pace (91) are Neymar’s greatest assets according to EA Sports.
Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Neymar
=3) Luis Suarez – 92
The Uruguayan has fantastic all-round stats, scoring highly for pace (82), dribbling (87) and shooting (90).
2) Lionel Messi – 93
Nobody gets close to Messi in the dribbling stakes (96).
1) Cristiano Ronaldo – 94
The Portuguese star is the strongest shooter on the list (92).
So, from a total of 12 players, there is a fairly even split of seven La Liga stars and five Premier League players.
Does this mean the gap between the two divisions is narrowing?
Upon closer inspection, it still seems that the Spanish league has the stronger players in general. The top-four spots are occupied by Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez and Neymar – players who all ply their trade in Spain.
Whatever conclusions are drawn, we must consider ourselves lucky to be part of a generation that is able to witness so many incredibly talented footballers, all of whom are at the peak of their powers, at the same moment in time.
