There were certain players that quite simply had to be in the side, such as Alexis Sanchez, Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.
Other positions were harder to judge, however, and none more so than left-back.

Mesut Ozil could be viewed as another controversial selection, but his record of nine goals and five assists in 22 games for Arsenal this term is hard to ignore.

Despite Son Heung-min’s form being inconsistent to say the least of late, how he performed during the absence of Harry Kane, and his improvement from last season was enough to earn him a spot in the XI.
And finally, Toby Alderweireld’s omission was partly down to his extended absence from the first-team, but also due to Laurent Koscielny’s excellent form for Arsenal.
