Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have a rising star in Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos might already have one eye on the international break.

The South American striker drew a blank in Tuesday’s 2-0 home defeat by Aberdeen as Steven Gerrard’s side missed the chance to reach the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

Morelos was called up to the Colombia squad for games against Japan and South Korea later this month.

And the fact that Carlos Queiroz gave him the call at the expense of Carlos Bacca highlights the fact that Rangers have a serious player on their hands.

Bacca, a £30 million striker in 2015 [Scottish Sun], has 52 caps for his country and has been a big player for his country for almost a decade, but Queiroz overlooking him for the Gers marksman illustrates Morelos’s rising profile.

This is good news for Rangers in the sense that fans will want their players to prosper on the international scene, but it’s not good in the sense that a higher profile means a greater risk of losing him this summer.

There is already talk about the 22-year-old – a £1.2 million signing in 2017 [Scottish Sun] – leaving Ibrox this summer, and a profile-boosting stint for the national side might increase the likelyhood of that.
