Stan Collymore has said that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa should sign Harry Maguire from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool and Villa striker has written on CaughtOffSide that he himself would drive Maguire to Villa Park.

The pundit has outlined the reasons why the £200,000-a-week (SalarySport) England international defender would be a good signing for the Villans.

Stan Collymore wants Manchester United defender Harry Maguire at Aston Villa

Collymore wrote: “On the subject of potential players leaving Man United… Although I think the criticism he receives is hugely unfair at times, I think Harry Maguire, for his own sake, has to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

“He’s a quality centre-back who puts his body on the line, but he does have his limitations; it’s just a case of putting others around him to mask those areas of weakness, and personally, I think a team like Aston Villa are able to offer him that. I would love to see him at Villa Park – I’d drive him from Manchester to the Midlands myself if I could.

“A club like Aston Villa and Maguire would be a match made in heaven – they’re big enough to match his ambition, they’ve got an experienced manager who could definitely get the best out of him and competition for Tyrone Mings would only be a positive thing.”

HITC Verdict: Does not seem a bad idea

In our view, Harry Maguire would be a good signing for Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

True, the Englishman has not been great for Manchester United, but he is a very good defender who does well whenever he plays for England and did well when he was at Leicester City.

Villa are a big and established club in the Premier League, and under manager Unai Emery, they are going places.

Maguire is 30 now, and given his experience and quality, we believe that he would be able to make an immediate impact at Villa.

Villa will be aiming for the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Champions League places in the Premier League next season.

And Maguire would be an asset for the Villans.
