Stan Collymore has told the Daily Mirror that Richarlison is the one Everton player that could get into Wolves’ side at the moment – and only if the Brazilian is performing at his best.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men stunned Goodison Park at the weekend, as goals from Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker saw the visitors leave Merseyside with a 3-1 victory.

The result has seemingly increased the pressure on Toffees boss Marco Silva. And Collymore suggested that the Portuguese could have no complaints about the discontent given the lack of progress the squad seem to have made during his tenure.

“With owner Farhad Moshiri’s money and the chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale talking up the club’s ambitions at their AGM and spending £50m on your marquee player, if you’re the manager of that club, you should be getting to this stage of the season and be able to say you have coached and motivated players who can get into the teams above me,” he told the Mirror.

“I can’t see that Silva has done that with any of his players at Everton, and that is a major problem.

“I wouldn’t take Jordan Pickford over Rui Patricio. I wouldn’t swap any Everton midfielder for Ruben Neves or Joao Moutinho.

“Maybe only Richarlison would get in that Wolves team, but only at his very best.”

It has probably not helped Silva’s cause that the two teams they sit behind in the ‘best of the rest’ table are Saturday’s opponents, who are seventh, and Watford.

Marco Silva the head coach

Wolves were in the Championship this time last year. But they have made a number of brilliant moves in the transfer market to prepare their squad for the highest level and have 13 games to pick up the two points needed to go past the 40-point mark – though they will certainly be setting their sights a lot higher.

Meanwhile, Javi Gracia is doing a superb job at Vicarage Road and so far proving that the Hornets’ decision to part company with Silva and appoint the Spaniard last season was a very smart one.
