Stan Collymore wasn’t entirely impressed by Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish’s display for England last night.

Grealish claimed an assist in a 3-0 victory for the Three Lions over Ireland, and generally earned positive reviews of his performance.

However, Collymore has suggested that Grealish was, perhaps, slightly too eager to impress.

And the former Villa man felt that the playmaker needed to be more positionally disciplined.

Grealish’s tendency to float around is encouraged at Villa, but Gareth Southgate has previously suggested that he needs to work better in the system to earn more starts for England.

Whether his display last night will have convinced Southgate to use Grealish in a competitive fixture now remains to be seen.

Grealish has been in wonderful form for club and country this season, but Southgate has continuously overlooked him so far.

England still face games against Belgium and Iceland in the coming days, where Grealish may have a chance of starting again.
