Former Aston Villa forward Stan Collymore has suggested his old side are starting to look more like themselves.
Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore explained on talkSPORT that he feels his old club are starting to play with a style he would call ‘classic Villa’.
Collymore was complementary of the way Villa played against Manchester City last weekend and praised the overall focus of the side under current manager Tim Sherwood.
“It’s looking more like classic Villa; they’re passing well, Delph is playing well, Grealish is playing well, they look dangerous and they’re not giving up,” he said.
It’s a small but positive assessment of what’s happening at Villa under Sherwood, but the side still very much remain under pressure.
The cushion they held above the bottom three has been cut from six points down to just two, with Leicester and Sunderland among the teams who could confine Sherwood’s team to a position back inside the bottom three.
If Villa can somehow scramble over the line this season and stay in the top flight then the building blocks are in place.
The club can start moving forward with a process, which is designed to ensure that the struggles of this season don’t ever repeat themselves.
Next up for Villa is a match against Everton at home, which won’t be easy because Roberto Martinez’s team will be on the up following their big win against Manchester United.
Villa need to try and use their home advantage to get an edge during the game, but if they lack focus, Everton definitely have the players who can take this match away from them.
