College football analyst Josh Pate has admitted his interview with Donald Trump didn’t go as he’d hoped.
The host of the College Football Show had expected a proper chat about the sport and its biggest issues. Instead, the conversation ended up being far shorter than planned.
Pate later opened up about the experience while discussing what happened behind the scenes.

Josh Pate explained the situation during an appearance on the Macrodosing podcast while reflecting on the interview. The analyst said the original plan had been for a much longer conversation.
However, scheduling delays drastically reduced the time available for the interview. Pate noted the interview window had originally been expected to last between 35 and 45 minutes before the schedule changed.
“Suffice it to say, it didn’t go the way that I thought it was going to go.”
“If I know I’ve got 10 minutes here, do I run the risk of asking a really in-depth question that he just goes eight minutes on an answer?”
“You didn’t even have an interview at that point.”
Shortened interview forced quick adjustment
According to Pate, Trump’s team arrived behind schedule on the day of the event in Rome, Georgia. By the time the interview setup was complete, the time available had been cut significantly.
The college football analyst said he had to rethink his approach on the fly. The final recorded conversation ended up lasting about 10 minutes rather than the extended discussion he had planned.
Pate also said an off-camera conversation with Trump before the interview was actually more substantive than the portion that was recorded.
The experience sparked discussion across the college football media landscape after the interview aired.
