Coleman delivers update on Ramsey’s fitness as Arsenal face Tottenham

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey pulled out of Wales squad ahead of their clash against Panama.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has been quoted by the Daily Star as saying Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be fit for Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ramsey, 26, withdrew from the Wales squad after his country’s 2-0 loss to France, with the London Evening Standard claiming he could be a doubt for Saturday’s crucial encounter.

The former Cardiff City midfielder will miss Tuesday night’s friendly against Panama but is expected to be fit for this weekend, in what will be a huge boost for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as they look to close the gap between themselves and Spurs.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash, Coleman said that he knew Wales would only have Ramsey for one of the two friendlies during the international break before allaying Arsenal fans’ fears over his fitness ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“Coming into the camp, we knew that we were only going to have him for France,” Coleman said. “No matter how we felt afterwards, we decided that it would be one game. He’s gone back, he’s okay, he came through the game okay.

“Coming into the camp, with what has been happening with him at Arsenal in terms of his fitness, we thought that one game would be better than two. He will be available for the weekend”.

Arsenal could already be without target man Olivier Giroud, who suffered a thigh injury in the win over Wales while Spurs barred trio Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Harry Winks from playing for England against Germany and Brazil.

Spurs have lost just one of their last seven league and cup encounters against the Gunners, with the last meeting between the two ending in a 2-0 win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
