Former Premier League striker Carlton Cole labelled Graeme Souness’ comments after Tottenham’s controversial 1-1 draw with Newcastle United as ‘madness’, as he posted on Twitter.

It was a day when the new handball rule took another hit in the face after Spurs and Eric Dier were penalised in the dying moments of the game for his accidental handball inside the penalty area.

The decision to award the spot-kick, which was converted by Callum Wilson, sparked outrage, but Souness claimed on Sky Sports that it’s going to bring more ‘excitement’ to the game and ‘more goals’.

His comments clearly didn’t sit well with former Hammers hitman, Cole, who shared his thoughts on the decision itself and then at what Souness had to say.

Jose Mourinho was so disgusted by the decision that he walked straight down the tunnel before Wilson could put the penalty away.

It’s not the first time this season that these types of decisions have been made because Crystal Palace have been on both ends of such decisions during this past week.

Whilst Spurs fans will acknowledge that they should have put the game to bed in the first half, they will feel hugely let down that they dropped points in such a manner.

But there’s not too much time to reflect for those in North London because they take on their neighbours in the League Cup tomorrow night, and that’s sure to provide fireworks of its own.
