Cole Palmer is one of the most naturally gifted players to wear a Chelsea shirt in recent years, but even he is aware of the one that got away from the club.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Palmer has made a huge impression. He has firmly established himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents.

Gary Lineker has gone so far as to suggest that Palmer could be in line for a Ballon d’Or in the future, and while the 23-year-old is now a role model for others, there are still a few players he admires.

One of them could have played with him at Stamford Bridge had Chelsea not made one of their worst decisions this century.

When you consider the players Palmer has already lined up alongside, it is easy to see why he would pick one of the top midfielders in Premier League history.

The British standout did not share much game time with Kevin De Bruyne during his stint at Man City, but those few appearances left a lasting impression.

Speaking to JD Sports on TikTok, Palmer wasted no time in naming the six-time Premier League winner as the best he has played with.

Chelsea signed De Bruyne back in 2012 for a reported £7 million, but he never quite found his feet at Stamford Bridge.

The club eventually sold the Belgian star to Wolfsburg for £18 million just 18 months later. He returned to England in 2015 and has since put together one of the most impressive careers the league has seen.

Alongside Mo Salah, it remains one of those big ‘what ifs’ for Chelsea fans.

When asked about the toughest player he has ever faced, Palmer did not hesitate to mention Virgil Van Dijk.

And when it came to picking a legend he would like to play alongside, Wayne Rooney was his choice.

He certainly does not show any bias towards Chelsea in his selections.
