Cody Gakpo has told Liverpool supporters on Instagram ‘let’s keep going’ after his debut ended in a 2-2 draw in the third-round round of the FA Cup against Wolves at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Following his January transfer from PSV, Gakpo was thrown straight into the deep end by Jurgen Klopp and handed 84 minutes of action.
There weren’t any standout moments from the 23-year-old, nor were there any alarming moments, other than from the team.
Once again, Liverpool fell behind, this time in the most ridiculous of fashions when Alisson Becker passed the ball straight to Goncalo Guedes inside his own penalty area and he had an open net to fire in the first goal.
Whilst the home side did pull a goal back through Darwin Nunez before the end of the first half, those same issues were there for all to see, and in truth, the Reds were perhaps fortunate not to get knocked out by a Toti Gomes flick, only for replays unable to determine whether the goal was offside or not.
Nonetheless, following Gakpo’s first taste of English football and the Anfield crowd, he posted this to fans on social media.
“First one under the Anfield lights,” said Gakpo. “Let’s keep going.”

This is probably something he has to get used to during the early stages of his Liverpool career because it seems as though the team aren’t going to stop conceding so many chances.
That midfield area is just cooked to the point that it needs throwing away and replacing.
That’s either going to happen by the attack just outscoring and outmuscling their opponents, which they can do.
Or by Klopp being able to use the transfer market to try and sort out some very big issues, either way, for Gakpo, there is plenty more to come.
