Coco Gauff believes there are two WTA players in particular who could be suited to Winter Olympic sports.

Gauff has just lost in the first round of the Qatar Open, in a shocking defeat to lucky loser Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Prior to this disappointing defeat, Gauff was asked about the Winter Olympics, which everyone is talking about at the moment due to the current Games taking place in Milan Cortina.

When questioned over which tennis players she thought would be good at winter sports, Gauff had two from the WTA Tour in mind.

Coco Gauff suggests two tennis players who would be good Winter Olympians

Gauff, alongside three other WTA players, was asked by Tennis Channel about the tennis players who she thought could be good at the Winter Olympics.

In her response, Gauff suggested both Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur, suggesting they could be good at figure skating and curling, respectively, due to their game styles.

“I mean Iga slides a lot on the court, so I don’t know if it correlates with figure skating or something like that,” suggested Gauff.

She added, “For some reason I see Ons as the person sweeping, is it curling? Just because she has a good touch, so she can like read the amount of sweep she has to do to make it in the right spot.”

Gauff was not the only person to suggest Swiatek, with her compatriot Amanda Anisimova also picking the Wimbledon champion.

Anisimova said, “I’d probably have to go with Iga, because of her agility and overall movement skills.”

While Emma Navarro actually picked Gauff, who she thought would be good at skiing due to her agility.

“I think Coco maybe…I feel like she could be a good skier, she’s got like bendy knees and strong legs and stuff,” explained Navarro.

Then former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez picked a different name for figure skating, “I don’t know why my mind went directly to figure skating, and I feel like Mirra Andreeva would be a very good figure skater.”

Coco Gauff reveals the two Winter Olympians she is rooting for in Milan Cortina

Gauff messaged Lindsey Vonn after her Winter Olympic heartbreak, showing that she is actually invested in the 2026 Games.

After she suggested Swiatek and Jabeur as potential tennis Winter Olympians, Gauff was asked if there were any people she was supporting in particular in Milan Cortina.

“Looking forward to supporting Chloe Kim,” said Gauff, before adding, “Alyssa Liu the figure skater, I love her hair and like her whole comeback story.”

It has already been a successful Games for both of Gauff’s hopefuls, with Alyssa Liu already winning gold in the figure skating team event.

Chloe Kim has only just got her Games underway, leading the standings after qualifying for the snowboarding halfpipe final.
