Coco Gauff is now just two matches away from her second title of the season, moving into the semifinals at the Wuhan Open.

Gauff needed just 90 minutes to get past Laura Siegemund, winning 6-3, 6-0 without much trouble to move into the semifinals.

The American has cruised through all three rounds without dropping a set and continues to look in top form.

And with her victory over Siegemund, Gauff has now moved past Serena and Venus Williams for an impressive WTA record.

The 21-year-old is now the American with the most WTA 1000 semifinal appearances before turning 22, a record dating back to the format’s introduction in 1990.

Gauff’s total of 12 is one better than both Serena and Venus, who each reached that mark 11 times by the same age.

Only Maria Sharapova and Martina Hingis have more, with Sharapova sitting on 15 while Hingis tops the list with an unmatched 33 appearances.

Gauff turns 22 in March, so there’s still time for her to match Sharapova, but catching Hingis is out of reach at this stage of her career.

How Gauff has performed at WTA 1000 events this season

Gauff hasn’t added another WTA 1000 title to her collection in 2025, but she’s been close a couple of times. After early exits in Doha, Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami, she reached the finals in both Madrid and Rome.

Both clay-court finals ended in straight-sets defeats: first to Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid, then to Jasmine Paolini in Rome.

Her run to the semifinals at the Beijing Open was her next-best finish at this level, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova.
