Tottenham’s Kazaiah Sterling in action
Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kazaiah Sterling has had a tremendous month.
He scored his sixth goal in the FA Youth Cup last week as he helped Tottenham progress to the semi-finals.
Sterling was then promoted to train with the first team squad last week as they set to work ahead of the Everton clash.
On Friday, Sterling was part of the Tottenham side which beat rivals Arsenal 2-1 in a hotly contested clash at under-23 level.
Arsenal fielded first team squad members Carl Jenkinson, Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Debuchy in the match but were still on the wrong end of the result.
Sterling was a constant threat up front for Tottenham, and his performance won praise from coach John McDermott.
He told the club’s website: “One of our best defenders today was Kazaiah Sterling (up front).
“He really worked his socks off and I think he takes some credit for how much he gave to the team both in possession, which we know he can do, and out of possession as well.”
This attitude is likely to endear Sterling to first team head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Sterling won back possession for his side to create chances, and it is this high pressing game which has helped Tottenham’s first team kick on under their Argentine boss.
The 18-year-old is evidently making a big impression for Spurs, featuring for their under-18 and under-23 sides, and it would not be a shock to see him get a first team call up before the season is over.
