Dominic Solanke is under more pressure thanks to Aidy Boothroyd.

If Dominic Solanke was not under pressure at Liverpool already, he sure is now.

The Liverpool striker’s lack of game time was highlighted by England under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd.

Boothroyd told The Mirror: “I’m really pleased with Dom but I’m also a little bit worried about him because he is not getting the minutes and not getting the games.

“I am happy on the pitch picking the best players, but for the good of England and for the good of British football it would be nicer if we had more players playing, certainly better for us and for them.”

Boothroyd’s comments are said with good intentions.

They aim to bring more attention to Solanke’s lack of game time and push Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp into selecting him.

Solanke has to justify his selection and get picked on merit.

His pre-season performances did not build a strong enough case, while Daniel Sturridge did seize his chance.

Boothroyd’s comments increase the pressure on Solanke when he does eventually get his chance.

Increased pressure and spotlight means he will be more fiercely judged if he does not score or play well.

At one of the most watched clubs in world football, Solanke could probably do without the extra scrutiny.
