Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi says he ‘will understand’ if Matias Vecino or Stefano Sensi now look to leave, amid reported transfer interest from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Vecino and Sensi have found themselves on the fringes of Inzaghi’s plans since the Italian took charge last June. Antonio Conte’s San Siro successor has only started the pair in one Serie A fixture respectively so far this season.

Inzaghi started Sensi in his first league game at the helm at home to Genoa in August. But he has only fielded the 26-year-old from the bench in eight fixtures. As for Vecino, the 30-year-old has played 11 times as a substitute, while starting against Bologna in September.

Everton are aware of Vecino’s situation at Inter Milan, and Calciomercato note the Toffees are on pole for a transfer. His agent, Alessandro Lucci, alerted the Blues to the possibility of a January switch, as the midfielder’s €5m-a-year (£80k-a/w) contract will expire in June.

Tottenham are also keen on raiding Inter Milan in the January transfer window to reunite Conte with Sensi, per 90min. Spurs are considering a loan bid for the former Sassuolo star. Conte signed him for the Nerazzurri in a loan-to-buy deal totalling €30m (£25m) in 2019.

Tottenham transfer target Sensi has only played 91-minutes in Serie A since starting Inter Milan’s first game of the season. Vecino, meanwhile, has played 165-minutes since opening their 6-1 rout of Bologna on September 18, to now open the door for a transfer to Everton.

Inzaghi has spoken with the Nerazzurri stars on their situations recently and will offer them game time if they stay. But the Italian has stated, via quotes by Calciomercato, that he will also understand if Everton target Vecino or Tottenham target Sensi now look for transfers.

“Vecino? In this moment he and Sensi had less space,” Inzaghi said. “But I talked to them and for me, they are two players that I would always keep with me. If they stay, they will find space. Then if they want to play, always we will understand.”

Vecino extended his initial four-year contract with Inter Milan 13-months after joining the Nerazzurri from Fiorentina. He arrived for €24m (£20m) in 2017, but is now nearing an exit.
