Former Nottingham Forest defender Brian Laws has tipped Djed Spence to one day play for England amid a brilliant Championship season that has attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.
Speaking to the Athletic, the EFL coach admitted that he could see the on-loan Forest superstar playing for the Three Lions in the future, with Spence one of the second-tier’s breakout talents this campaign with the Championship giants.
As per the Athletic, Spence is likely to leave parent club Middlesbrough this summer, with Chris Wilder’s side valuing the defender at £15m ahead of a transfer window where interest will be high in the 21-year-old, namely from Arsenal and Tottenham.
Sky Sports News reported in January that the north London clubs are chasing Spence, with Leeds United also keen on the English youngster ahead of the summer, with all three clubs eager to strengthen at right-back.
Indeed, Spence’s future will be one of the most interesting to see play out this summer given how many clubs are interested in the youngster, and for Laws, the defender could one day do the unthinkable and play for England in the future.
The English coach said: “I could see him playing for England, even in a position where there is unbelievable competition.
“I loved Matty Cash. At one stage people were talking about him eventually joining the 20 or so full-backs we seem to have who are good enough to challenge for an England place, Spence has a bit more about him.”
Spence England claim is bold even with links to Arsenal and Tottenham

England’s depth at right-back is ridiculous, to say the least, with the position being consistently battled between Kyle Walker, Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and many more incredible talents, which is what makes Laws’ claim for Space a lofty one.
Whilst the defender has the potential to be a quality player in the Premier League, Spence’s development in the coming months will come down to which club the youngster signs for, with Arsenal and Tottenham ideal next steps for the aspiring England international.
