Coach suggests £85m superstar shouldn’t sign for Tottenham just yet

Croatia’s U-21 manager Igor Biscan has suggested Josko Gvardiol to not move to the Premier League just yet amid reports that Tottenham are interested in the 2022 FIFA World Cup superstar.

Speaking to the Atheltic, the former Liverpool star believes that the 20-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back would benefit from spending one extra year away from England before moving to the Premier League, with many of the division’s top sides interested in Gvardiol.

Foot Mercato recently reported that Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made bids to sign Gvardiol in the region of around £85m with TuttoMercatoWeb also claiming that Tottenham are in the race to land the Croatian wonderkid.

Whilst Spurs might be considered outsiders in the growing battle for Gvardiol’s signature, Antonio Conte’s pull could be enough to swing the race in Tottenham’s favour. Though there’s no denying that the defender would be an expensive asset following his performances at the World Cup.

Indeed, a January transfer to the Premier League feels like a certainty now. However, for Biscan, Gvardiol sees a move to England as something that is happening too soon in the defender’s career, The Croatian coach said: “I believe maybe it’s too early to go (to the Premier League) now.

“Take Kalidou Koulibaly, he’s regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, but he’s still trying to find his way in the Premier League. It’s a completely different environment. He’s still a little bit too young for me to be sure he’s an instant success. Maybe he needs to wait for a year or so to be ready.”

Gvardiol more than ready for Premier League move based on Croatia displays

The World Cup has the tendency to overestimate a player’s transfer value or even their base quality. However, this seemingly won’t be the case for Gvardiol, who flew to Qatar as one of the most exciting youngsters to keep an eye on and more than delivered.

Whilst Biscan’s concerns of moving to England are reasonable, there’s been nothing to suggest so far that Gvardiol would be out of place in the Premier League should a club like Tottenham win the race to sign the Croatia superstar, who is on course to become one of the best defenders in the world.
