Newcastle United fans may well have mixed feelings over the emergence of Manchester United talent Shola Shoretire.
On one hand, Shoretire hails from Newcastle and there may be a sense of hometown pride in seeing the teenager shine.
On the other, Shoretire was a local prospect who has slipped through the net, and now looks set to become a star with a Premier League rival.
Shoretire came on as a substitute for his Premier League debut on Sunday, ironically coming on against Newcastle as the Red Devils flaunted the Geordie in front of the Magpies.
Now, details are emerging on just how Newcastle missed out on Shoretire, which may lead to fans feeling a little frustrated.
The Daily Mail note that Shoretire was training with the Newcastle academy at the age of eight, but was also working with skills coach David Ballantyne.

Ballantyne claims that Newcastle ‘would have loved to sign him’, but ‘could not compete’ when Manchester United came knocking for him.
Ballantyne feels Shoretire would have made his Premier League debut a long time ago if he had joined Newcastle, admitting that he was a ‘wow’ player at a young age.
