Jhon Cordoba was left out of Cologne’s team over the weekend, as the reported Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers target is in talks to secure a move away from the Bundesliga outfit, coach Markus Gisdol has told BuliNews.

After the best run of form in his entire career, the Colombian front man looks set to strike while the proverbial iron is hot.

At the age of 27, there could hardly be a better time for the journeyman Cordoba to finally put down his roots on English soil.

On Saturday, BILD reported that the £14 million-rated target man could be heading to Goodison Park to provide competition for match-winner Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Wolves are interested too, according to the Express, although it remains to be seen if Nuno’s side are still in the race after the club-record £35 million signing of Fabio Silva from Porto.

Cordoba has already rejected the chance to extend a contract which expires in 2021, and it looks for all the world now that the former Granada and Espanyol man has played his final game for the Billy Goats.

“Jhon approached us and asked not to play because he is in negotiations with other clubs,” said Cologne boss Gisdol after Cordoba failed to feature in the 6-0 DFB Pokal victory over Altglienicke.

Cordoba scored a career-best 14 goals across 2019/20, including nine after the winter break as the club from the Cathedral City pulled clear of the relegation zone with a terrific run of form.

Like Calvert-Lewin and Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, the South American is at his best when leading the line on his own, putting his physical prowess to great use as a classic number nine.
