Graeme Souness told Sky Sports on Tuesday evening that, at the start of the season, he thought the Leeds players were ‘not Premier League’ standard but he has now changed his mind and thinks they ‘belong’ here.
The Anfield legend claimed the job Marcelo Bielsa has done at Leeds ‘defies logic’, especially given the style in which he does it in and the quality of players he has at his disposal.
Quite a lot of these Leeds players were sitting mid-table in the Championship before Bielsa arrived and they are now rightly sitting in the top ten of the Premier League table.
Souness was just full of praise for Bielsa and how he just loves watching his team in action.
“They have been the best watch, for me,” said Souness. “They play a brand of football that you cannot help but enjoy.
“There’s an honesty about them. They are a young group. Prior to this year, you are thinking ‘these are not Premier League players’.
“But to a man, they have stood up and looked as if they have belonged in this league. And some of the football has been fantastic.
“I would go as far as to say that he is my manager/coach of the year. The football he has got this group of players playing defies logic when you think about where those players were before.”

Newcastle were known as ‘The entertainers’ of the 90s’ and it’s fair to say that Leeds can have that tag today.
Whatever the scenario, scoreline, injury status of the squad, form or league position, it’s always 100 miles per hour from this Leeds team.
Without the ball, not many teams in the division can match them, and after securing that top ten finish this term, they will be hoping to go one better now they are settled in England’s top-flight for the forthcoming campaign.
