Some Arsenal fans are reacting on Twitter to a photo of William Saliba on international duty.
The on-loan Arsenal powerhouse played for France Under-21s last night as they hammered Ukraine 5-0.
Not only that, but Saliba, a £27 million signing by the Gunners in 2019, was named captain for the game.
And a clean sheet and towering performance was a fine way in which to lead his troops on the night.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans are reacting to a picture of the 20-year-old defender wearing the armband:
The young centre-back has been impressing on loan at Marseille since returning to France.
Despite joining the Emirates Stadium club over two years ago, and in spite of the transfer fee, Saliba hasn’t yet kicked a ball for Arsenal in a competitive game.
But it was reported this week [Football London] that Mikel Arteta has been very impressed by the youngster’s performances in Ligue 1 and he’ll be given a chance next summer.
That’s contrasted to Matteo Guendouzi, who is also on loan at Marseille from Arsenal.
But when the North Londoners agreed to that loan, they allowed the French club the option of signing him permanently when the agreement ends.
That indicates that Arsenal have no intention of bringing him back long term, but no such agreement is in place for Saliba and that, honestly, speaks volumes.
