Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio has issued a worrying update on reported Tottenham target Martin Terrier, with the winger potentially facing a lengthy spell out on the sidelines through injury.
Speaking to L’Equipe after Rennes’ 2-1 win against OGC Nice, the Ligue 1 coach revealed that Terrier’s injury suffered during the match could be a serious one, with the winger, who opened the scoring in the fifth minute, coming off with a knee problem in the first half.
Genesio said: “After his injury, we got together to say that we were going to play for him. When he came out, I shook his hand. He told me to win the game. I told him we would do it for him. We were sad and devastated in the locker room. It looks serious.”
The news will come as a massive blow for not only Rennes but also for the likes of Tottenham, who Media Foot report are interested in signing the £34m-rated Terrier, along with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Considered by many as one of the best attackers in France and a player who was unlucky to miss out on a call-up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Terrier has been in fine form this season, with 25-year-old bagging 12 goals and five assists in all competitions this campaign.
A transfer looked likely this month, especially with Tottenham joining the race to sign Terrier. However, this latest update from Genesio could all-but rule out any hope of the winger leaving Rennes for the Premier League, with the attacker now likely to be out for a few weeks or even months.
Martin Terrier’s injury has come at the worst possible time

Terrier has had the world at his feet for quite some time, with the attacker tearing up Ligue 1 and looking set for a major move at the right time in his career. Which is why the injury is such a heavy blow for the attacker, with the forward now unlikely to move from Rennes despite interest from Tottenham.
After all, few clubs will want to sign a player who is set for a lengthy spell out on the sidelines. And for clubs like Tottenham, missing out on Terrier will be a sucker punch given just how good the winger would have been Antonio Conte’s side in 2023.
