Liverpool transfer target Alex Teixeira is off to China.

Shakhar Donetsk have decided to sell Alex Teixeira to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning.

Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu confirmed to ESPN Brasil that the sale has been approved by the club.

He said: “We agreed the sale of Alex Teixeira to China, but we will wait a bit to give as finalised because of the situation of (Luiz) Adriano. But is closed from our side, yes.”

Luiz Adriano came close to moving to China before a deal fell through, but Alex Teixeira’s switch is considered practically done.

French newspaper L’Equipe claim the deal will cost Jiangsu Suning 50 million Euros.

Teixeira has been in superb form for Shakhtar this season, netting 22 goals in 16 games.

He had attracted the interest of Liverpool, who had two bids for the Brazilian turned down before the English transfer dealine, SkySports reported.

China’s deadline closes in 24 hours, and Teixeira is just the latest big name player to move to the country, following Jackson Martinez and Ramires.

Teixeira had expressed to Shakhtar his desire to move on and take a new challenge, but his choice of destination will prompt suggestions he is financially motivated rather than wanting a switch for sporting reasons.
