Tottenham Hotspur right-back Matt Doherty was in action for the Republic of Ireland against Scotland in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday evening.
And his performance did not impress the media in his country.
Doherty, who has struggled for playing time at Tottenham so far this season, started for the Republic of Ireland against Scotland in the UEFA Nations League Group B1.
The 30-year-old £14.7 million (The Guardian) player started the match at right wing-back and played for 76 minutes.
Scotland came from behind to win 2-1.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Matt Doherty criticised
The Irish Times were not impressed by Doherty’s performance and gave the Tottenham player 5 out of 10 in their Player Ratings.
Describing the Tottenham right-back/right wing-back’s performance, The Irish Times wrote: “Sluggish and looked short of fitness given his lack of gametime for Tottenham.

“Made a few clumsy tackles and Scotland saw an opening on his side. Poor for the Hendry goal, a halfhearted attempt to stop Christie.
“Made one brilliant defensive header at the back post, but not enough to make up for an erratic display.”
Doherty has become a peripheral figure at Tottenham, and it is unlikely that he would become a regular under for Spurs under head coach Antonio Conte anytime soon.
The Tottenham no. 2 has played only three minutes in the Premier League and just four minutes in the UEFA Champions League so far this season.
Doherty made nine starts and six substitute appearances in the league for Spurs last season, scoring two goals and given four assists in those games.
