Ex-Wolves captain, Karl Henry, labelled Dermot Gallagher’s comments regarding Tyrone Mings’ tackle on Bukayo Saka as ‘clueless’ following Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Premier League referee claimed that Mings shouldn’t have been sent off during the Villa-Arsenal encounter.
In the first half, Mings was booked after a challenge on the Arsenal forward, which left the Villa Park supporters seething.
With the ball falling loose, Mings simply reached out to pass the ball to his teammate, before his follow-through caught the back leg of Saka.
The on-field referee, Andy Madley, stopped play, awarded a foul to Arsenal and booked Mings for his tackle.
On Ref Watch on Sky Sports, it was discussed with ex-referee, Gallagher, if that tackle should have been a red – and he made it clear that he shouldn’t and it was only a yellow card.
But, former Wolves midfielder, Karl Henry, was critical of what he was hearing because he didn’t even think it was a foul, nevermind a card.
It was one of a number of poor decisions that was made by the on-field referee during the game.
Granit Xhaka was booked for his first foul, even though the on-field referee was seen gesturing that it was his third foul of the game.
Either way, from both sides, questionable calls were made and it wasn’t a good look on the officials.
