According to The Express & Star, Arsenal want to sign a replacement for Emiliano Martinez before they let him leave amid interest from Aston Villa.

It has been reported that Villa are interested in signing the Argentine goalkeeper from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that the 28-year-old – described as “commanding” by Arsenal legend Ian Wright on The Kelly and Wrighty Show (Optus Sport, July 26, 2020) (click here to read more) – is ‘facing an uncertain future’ at the Gunners.

It has been further added that the North London club want to bring in a replacement before they sanction his departure.

Would Emiliano Martinez be a good signing for Aston Villa?

Tom Heaton is injured at the moment, while Pepe Reina has left following the end of his loan spell at Villa at the end of last season.

The Villans could do with a top-quality and experienced goalkeeper for now, and Martinez would be a good signing in that respect.

The 28-year-old showed what he is capable of in the final weeks of last season when he got the chance for Arsenal due to injury to first-choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

However, once Heaton recovers his full fitness, manager Dean Smith could have too many goalkeepers in his squad, with Lovre Kalinic, Jed Steer and Orjan Nyland also at the club.
