It has been reported that the Gunners will accelerate efforts to tie down the Argentine goalkeeper to a new deal.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is out of contract at the North London outfit in the summer of 2022, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, and the Premier League club reportedly want him to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The Sun reported last month that Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa wants to sign his Argentine compatriot this summer.
Blow for Leeds United
Leeds will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship.
Martinez is a very good goalkeeper who played an important role in Arsenal winning the FA Cup this season, and the 27-year-old would push Kiko Casilla next season and perhaps even replace him in the starting lineup on a regular basis at the Whites.
However, with Arsenal reportedly planning to hand the 27-year-old a new contract, it will come as a blow for Leeds in their quest to sign the former Argentina Under-20 international, described as “commanding” by Gunners legend Ian Wright on The Kelly and Wrighty Show (Optus Sport, July 26, 2020) (click here to read more).
