Jean-Kevin Augustin has sent a message to the Leeds United supporters on Twitter after he signed a two-year deal with Nantes.

Augustin spent the second half of last season on loan to Leeds but made just three substitute appearances.

His then parent club, RB Leipzig, later accused the Whites of failing to honour an obligation to buy the Frenchman, at a cost of £19 million, following their promotion back to the Premier League – and have even threatened legal action.

But there is no mention of any fee being paid to Leipzig in Nantes’ official statement – supporting claims made by L’Equipe that Augustin, who had two years left on his contract in Germany, had become a free agent.

What that means for Leeds, from a legal point of view, remains to be seen.

But for Augustin, at least, there is no ill feeling towards the Whites.

Leeds have since signed the Spain striker Rodrigo Moreno in a club-record deal, while Patrick Bamford has scored three goals in his first four Premier League games for the club.
