Speculation is rife that Arsenal want to sign Martin Odegaard.
According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old Real Madrid playmaker is firmly on the Gunners’ radar this month.
But ESPN have reported in recent days that Odegaard is determined to re-sign for Real Sociedad on loan, where he spent the 2019-20 campaign.
That’s bad news for Arsenal if true, but another report from Mundo Deportivo offers more encouraging news.
The Spanish outlet has reported that although Sociedad are definitely in the picture, they fear that Odegaard’s agents are going to push him to join the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta needs somebody of the Norwegian’s ilk in North London, it must be said.
Arsenal have lost Mesut Ozil and despite not playing the former Germany international since March, surely they still need to replace the mercurial number 10.
Emile Smith Rowe has come to the fore for Arteta in recent weeks, really establishing himself as the Gunners’ first-choice playmaker.
But he’s only 20 and the Spanish coach might need other options, given how much Arsenal have struggled for goals earlier in the campaign.
Odegaard earns £85,000 per week in the Spanish capital.
