Liverpool are interested in signing Ozan Kabak from Schalke in the January transfer window, according to The Mirror.
It has been reported that the defending Premier League champions have opened talks with Schalke over a £20 million deal for Kabak.
The Reds have told Schalke that they want to secure the services of the 20-year-old centre-back when the window opens in January, according to the report.
The report has added that although Schalke are looking for £30 million as transfer fee for the youngster, Liverpool are planning a deal that would see them pay £20 million initially and further payments in add-ons, as they look for a replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who will not play again this season after suffering serious knee damage in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

Ozan Kabak’s Schalke spell
Kabak joined Schalke from fellow German club Stuttgart in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by The Mirror to be worth £13 million.
According to WhoScored, the Turkey international centre-back made 21 starts and five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
The 20-year-old has played twice in the Bundesliga for Schalke this campaign, according to WhoScored.
Highly rated
Kabak is a very talented and promising young centre-back who is rated very highly by Schalke.
The German club’s head of sport Jochen Schneider said in September 2020, as quoted by BuliNews, that the Turkey international is “one of the biggest talents in Europe at his position” and “is a great player and a wonderful person”.
Kabak is still developing and progressing as a footballer, and the youngster could prove to be a good signing for Liverpool, not just for now, but for the long term as well.
