It has been reported that City are planning to trigger the buy-back clause in Luiz’s contract and re-sign him for £25 million.
As reported by BBC Sport at the time, Villa paid the Citizens £15 million in transfer fees to secure the services of the 22-year-old central midfielder.
However, according to The Telegraph journalist John Percy, it is ‘highly likely’ that Villa will offer the Brazil international a new contract ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Stats
Luiz made 28 starts and eights substitute appearances in the Premier League for Villa this past season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
The 22-year-old also made five appearances in the EFL Cup for Dean Smith’s side in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.
Aston Villa stay
Described by Villa manager Dean Smith as “an extremely talented young player with an outstanding pedigree” on BBC Sport in July 2019, Luiz has been very good for Villa.
While moving back to City would be tempting, at Villa, the Brazilian will get to play regular first-team football, and perhaps he should stay at Villa Park even if City make an offer.
