Newcastle United’s much anticipated takeover is yet to be completed but the rumours about their targets are increasing day by day.
The Magpies have been linked with a number of top players and managers in recent weeks, yet the link to Andre Villas-Boas was a surprising one.
Le10 Sport reported recently that Newcastle’s soon-to-be new owners have identified the Marseille boss as an alternative to Mauricio Pochettino who still remains their number one choice.
Villas-Boas would certainly be an interesting appointment for Newcastle United considering his previous disappointing spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Portuguese has, however, taken Marseille to a whole new level. The 42-year-old took charge at the start of this season and helped the club finish second in the league behind champions PSG.
Just six losses in 33 games is an incredible record and it just might be the reason behind Newcastle’s reported interest. However, that again is the reason why Marseille are so desperate to keep him and have now reportedly offered him a new contract.

La Provence have claimed that Villas-Boas has been offered an extension until 2022 but he is still unsure about his future.
The former Spurs boss is said to be deeply affected by the sacking of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
It will be interesting to see what Villas-Boas decides to do in the next few months. Taking over at Newcastle would not be easy but the support of their ambitious new likely owners could help convince him to return to the Premier League.
