According to Record, Benfica have yet to make a move for Arsenal central defender David Luiz.
The Portuguese publication has claimed that Benfica have made no contacts with the former Chelsea star’s agent and do not plan to do so anytime soon.
The report has added that Benfica know that they cannot match the net annual €7 million (£6.23 million) that the Brazil international earns at the Gunners.
The Portuguese giants also know that Luiz, who can operate as a defensive midfielder as well, is getting many offers, and they cannot match them, according to the report.
Luiz recently said that his “dream” is to end his career at Benfica, as quoted in The London Evening Standard, but it seems that he will have to wait for now to return to the Portuguese club.
Arsenal stay
Luiz’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, recently told Sky Sports that Luiz is “very happy” at Arsenal, and suggested that he could stay at the Gunners next season.
The 33-year-old has done relatively well for the North London outfit this season, and given the current economic situation in football due to the global health crisis, it would make sense for both him and Arsenal to agree on a new one-year deal.
