West Ham are still not safe from relegation in the Premier League. However, that hasn’t stopped them from exploring their options ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
The Hammers have been linked with a number of players across multiple positions. One area where David Moyes is looking for an addition is in goal.
Lukasz Fabianski has had a torrid campaign due to injuries. That forced the Irons to re-sign Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough back in the January transfer window.
Despite Randolph’s addition, West Ham have been linked with other goalkeepers but none more so than Olympiacos’ Jose Sa.
Estadio Deportivo claimed two months ago that the Hammers were keen to sign the shot-stopper after his impressive performance in th Europa League which knocked Arsenal out of the competition.
Sportime claimed that the Portuguese goalkeeper has a release clause of just £13 million which makes him a very attractive proposition for many clubs including West Ham.
Olympiacos initially refused to part ways with their star keeper but it now seems like they are planning for life without him this summer.
Foot Mercato have claimed today that the Greek heavyweights are in talks to sign Monaco’s Danijel Subasic this summer.
The experienced Croatian is out of contract in a few days time and Olympiacos seem very keen on bringing him in on a free transfer.
That should come in as good news for the Hammers, who are now free to make their move for Sa in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Do West Ham really need Sa?
It is unclear if West Ham will pursue their interest from over two months ago. Sa would certainly be a very good signing for them but the need for him decreases if Fabianski is fully fit again.
The last few games of the Premier League season will help make their mind up. If Fabianski has a good end to the campaign, the Hammers will have no real reason to move in for Sa but if he gets injures again, the chances of them tabling a bid for the Olympiacos man increases significantly.
