Lazio president Claudio Lotito has all-but ruled out a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso with the Argentine facing an uncertain future at the Premier League outfit.

The appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Antonio Conte’s replacement not only promised to bring about the long-awaited return of free-flowing attacking football at Tottenham Hotspur, it also handed clean slates to a number of players who’s futures initially appeared to lie away from North London.

Postecoglou has spoken warmly about Tanguy Ndombele. Sergio Reguilon is part of the former Celtic boss’s pre-season plans. Giovani Lo Celso, meanwhile, offered a timely reminder of his own talents with a fine strike against West Ham in Postecoglou’s homeland of Australia last week.

“I like Gio,” Postecoglou tells The Standard. “He fits the way we play. I enjoy working with him and he seems to enjoy working with us.”

Giovani Lo Celso may now have a future at Tottenham

A £27 million signing from Real Betis, a member of Lo Celso’s camp appeared to confirm the interest of Napoli recently/ Lazio have also been mentioned as a potential destination.

But following Postecoglou’s praise – and with Lazio distancing themselves from the speculation – the odds on Lo Celso being a Spurs player when 2023/24 kicks off may have just gotten a whole lot shorter.

“There are choices that must be made. And I must accept others’ decisions too. I am not just chasing (big) names, otherwise, I’d get Lo Celso and (Juventus’) Leandro Paredes,” Lotito tells Football Italia.

Outstanding for a spell under Jose Mourinho; Lo Celso could be one of the Spurs players to benefit the most from Postecoglou’s appointment.

The Argentine is positionally versatile, extremely hard working and an excellent technician. As such, he may be an ideal fit for one of the number eight roles in Postecoglou’s three-man midfield. Perhaps operating as a link man between James Maddison and Spurs’ deepest midfielder.

Davinson Sanchez may also be a Spurs player when the Premier League campaign kicks off in July. Albeit under very different circumstances. His £13 million move to Spartak Moscow fell through on Wednesday.

“Yes, indeed, this is the end of the negotiations,” Fernando Villarreal, Sanchez’s representative, tells Euro Football Russia.
