Steven N’Zonzi has been linked to Everton.
Sevilla president Jose Castro has expressed his annoyance at suggestions Steven N’Zonzi wants to quit the club.
Castro believes the transfer rumours are unhelpful regarding the Frenchman, and that they will be putting their own interests first.
Expressing his frustration, Castro told Mundo Deportivo: “N’Zonzi has a contract, his place is not finished because he has a contract with Sevilla. The solution will be looking at the interests of Sevilla and also looking at the interests of the player.”
N’Zonzi travelled to England this week, which Castro explained was purely for family reasons and was not transfer related.
He told SkySports: “He has travelled to London to visit his son with our permission.”
Of course family reasons and wanting to see his son more is an obvious reason why N’Zonzi may be keen on a return to England.
Castro said there are currently no offers for the player, adding: “There aren’t any offers to sign N’Zonzi. I can’t talk about clauses or prices if we don’t have an offer.
“We respect the decision of our coaches, he is training with their mates but currently he isn’t playing.”
N’Zonzi has lost his place in the team over the past month, and was linked with an exit in the summer to Juventus.
Castro’s comments show a little frustration at the speculation, but they also hint he could be swayed if a useful offer comes his way.
Everton should put this to the test by bidding big for the Sevilla star, as the chance to reinvest the money could tempt them as they bid to get into Spain’s top four spots.
