Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to give his take on Leeds United reportedly set to sign Joe Gelhardt.
As reported by BBC Sport, Leeds are in advanced talks with Wigan Athletic over the transfer of the 18-year-old forward.
The report has claimed that the West Yorkshire outfit – who will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship – will pay the Latics £1 million in transfer fees.
Wigan are under administration at the moment and will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship following a 12-point penalty, although they have appealed against the decision and will get to know the outcome next week, as reported by BBC Sport.
MacAnthony, owner of League One club Peterborough United, believes that Leeds are reportedly set to sign Gelhardt for a bargain fee.
Good signing for Leeds United?
Gelhardt is only 18 years of age, and although he made 19 appearances this past season, according to BBC Sport, he is still raw and developing as a footballer.
The teenager is unlikely to play much for Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team squad next season, but he is a long-term prospect who will get better in the coming years if he continues to work hard and does well in the youth side.
