Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson has been linked with moves away Elland Road in the summer transfer window.
Marcus Antonsson endured a disappointing campaign at Leeds United in 2016-17. Signed from Kalmar FF in the summer of 2016, the 26-year-old striker failed to make a huge impact at Elland Road last season.
Antonsson was the second-choice striker under then head coach Garry Monk – who is now in charge of Championship rivals Middlesbrough – last season and was able to make only six starts in the Championship.
The Swedish striker made a further 10 appearances in the league as a substitute, scoring just one goal in the process.
With Chris Wood in red-hot form last season – the New Zealand international striker scored 27 goals in the Championship – Antonsson is likely to play second fiddle again in 2017-18.
It does not come as a surprise that the former Halmstads BK striker has been linked with a move away from Leeds in the summer transfer window.
According to Fotboll Direkt, as many as five clubs are interested in signing Antonsson from Leeds this summer (click here to read more).
Swedish club AIK is among them, but the Allsvenskan outfit’s sporting director Bjorn Wesstrom has refused to be drawn into speculation.
“As I have always said since I started this job,” Wesstrom told Fotboll Direkt when asked about signing Antonsson, as translated by Sport Witness.
“I do not comment on information about players at other clubs. What I can say is that we are always looking for reinforcements. There are opportunities in the transfer window, and I do not dismiss anyone.”
