Udinese are now reportedly keen on keeping 24-year-old Portuguese striker Beto, with the on-loan Portimonense star wanted by Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A side have decided to permanently sign the attacker after an incredible season, with Beto hitting 11 goals in the Italian top-flight and attracting interest from the likes of Newcastle, AC Milan and Napoli.
However, as per the report, instead of selling the striker for a hefty profit, with Udinese valuing Beto at €40m (£33m), the Italian side have now made the ‘surprise move’ to keep the forward for next season.
Whilst it makes sense why Udinese want to keep hold of Beto, the financial benefits of selling the striker seemingly outweigh the on the pitch benefits of keeping the Portuguese forward, especially with clubs with money, such as Newcastle, eyeing the 24-year-old.
Compared to Chelsea superstar Romelu Lukaku as per GIFN, Beto has been a sensation for Udinese this season, and it’s no wonder why the likes of Newcastle and Milan are keen on signing the former Benfica academy talent.
However, this surprise decision from Udinese has thrown a spanner in the works for any interested club, with Beto viewed by many as a player who would be off this summer given his fantastic form in Serie A.
Udinese decision on Beto is a huge blow for Newcastle

Striker is a position Newcastle will be looking to improve this summer, and given Beto’s form and qualities, the Udinese attacker could have been perfect to lead Eddie Howe’s side for next season.
However, this latest decision from the Udine-based club is a huge blow for the Toon, and with the summer transfer window opening in two months, Newcastle will have to act fast on identifying new targets with Beto seemingly off the menu.
