Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud is set to receive a contract extension with the club following an impressive season as well as interest from Newcastle United.
According to Sport1 via GGFN, Marco Rose has been impressed with the German international’s performances this campaign, and with Axel Witsel leaving the club at the end of this season, tying Dahoud down to a new contract will help save Dortmund some vital funds in the transfer window.
The midfielder, who earns a reported £65,000-a-week, has made 20 Bundesliga appearances this season and has enjoyed one of his best terms yet for Dortmund, so much so that Newcastle were linked with Dahoud in the January transfer window.
Sport1 reported that the Magpies were interested in signing the Syrian-born, with a midfielder a priority position for Eddie Howe to improve ahead of the summer transfer window, and this latest update will infuriate the Newcastle boss.
Dahoud has enjoyed a great campaign with Dortmund, and with his contract currently set to expire in 2023, Newcastle could have landed a bargain in the 26-year-old midfielder. However, these plans now seem to be out of the window.
With Dortmund now likely to renew the midfielder’s contract, Howe and Newcastle will have to look for alternatives to Dahoud, which could be a struggle given how impressive the former Borussia Monchengladbach star has been this season.
Dahoud’s new Dortmund contract is a major blow for Newcastle’s plans

Midfield is set to be one of the most important positions Newcastle improve this summer, and no Dahoud on the shortlist is a big blow for the club’s plans ahead of the transfer window.
Indeed, Dahoud would have offered a lot of what Newcastle are missing in the midfielder, and with Dortmund set to extend the 26-year-old’s contract, the Magpies must look for new targets in the position with the window set to open in three months time.
