Sevilla have reportedly made an offer to sign Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson as a replacement for Jules Kounde, with Aston Villa and Newcastle United also linked to the Danish centre-back.

According to Marca, the La Liga giants have made an opening bid to the Turkish giants to sign the 23-year-old, with Sevilla sporting director Monchi eager to replace Kounde with a player of a similar profile to the new-FC Barcelona defender, who joined the Catalan side last week for a reported €55m (£46m).

Whilst Sevilla have now made an offer to sign Nelsson, the Andalusian club are far from the only team interested in signing the Galatasaray star, with both Newcastle and Villa reportedly interested in the former FC Copenhagen talent this summer, with the Toon even believed to have made an offer.

However, these reports of a Newcastle bid appeared months ago, and much has changed since these initial rumours, with Eddie Howe since signing LOSC Lille superstar Sven Botman as the Magpies’ main defensive signing for the summer, whilst for Villa, they brought in fellow Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

Indeed, Nelsson would have a huge job on his hands if Sevilla were to sign the Scandinavian defender, with Julen Lopetegui’s defensive options rather thin heading into the new season after losing both Kounde and the Brazilian Carlos, yet the Dane would be a solid addition to the Spanish side.

Nelsson is regarded by many as one of the best centre-backs in Turkey last season, and with Sevilla in the money after selling both Kounde and Carlos, Monchi could pull off a deal to sign the 23-year-old in the coming days, much to the dismay of Newcastle and Villa.

Sevilla have been well-and-truly raided this summer, with Kounde and Carlos two losses who could be near-impossible to replace in this transfer window, yet Nelsson could be a great start for Lopetegui’s squad, especially if they can beat Newcastle and Villa to the signing.

After all, Nelsson is a young defender with perfect attributes for the style of football Sevilla are renowned for, and although trying to lure the centre-back from Galatasaray will be hard, the funds are now there for a deal to be completed before the start of the season next week.
