Clive Allen has urged Tottenham to sign the ‘really talented’ Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, as he told talkSPORT.

The Tottenham legend thinks Antonio Conte is looking for that creative injection in the middle of the park and backed Lingard as a possible signing.

Last January, Lingard moved from Old Trafford to West Ham and helped David Moyes’s side secure Europa League football.

Since returning to Manchester United, Lingard has been further frustrated by his lack of game time at Old Trafford.

The England international is still at his boyhood club, but if he wants to remain in Gareth Southgate’s plans heading towards the World Cup in Qatar, then he needs to move and play regular football.

Moving to Spurs would be a win-win situation for all parties and Allen would like to see the deal happen.

“I think when he came to West Ham, he was outstanding,” said Allen. “A really talented player.

“At the moment, Spurs are looking for an injection of creativity in that midfield area.

“Harry Kane is looking a little frustrated, in terms of lack of opportunities created for him, so someone of Lingard’s qualities would be a fabulous addition.”

Given that Lingard has come through the Manchester United ranks, it’s not easy for a player like that to leave because of the emotional attachment.

But Lingard wasn’t part of the last England squad, and in truth, he won’t be going forward if he stays put at Old Trafford.

The signs don’t suggest that his game time will change, so he has to now think of his future.

Ever since Christian Eriksen left north London, Spurs have been crying out for that creative energy in their attacking third and someone like Lingard would provide that.

Not only that, but he would also lift the spirits and the game of someone like his national teammate, Harry Kane.
