Galatasaray have contacted Arsenal about signing midfielder Thomas Partey this summer.

That is according to Takvim.

The Turkish outlet claims that Galatasaray are interested in Thomas Partey and have been in touch with Arsenal about a potential deal.

Back in July, Mikel Arteta stated that the 30-year-old, who the Gunners signed from Atletico Madrid for £45m, wanted to stay at the Emirates.

“Every time I had a conversation with him, he says he wants to stay with us,” the Arsenal manager was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “There is nothing there at all.”

Mikel Arteta still has use for Thomas Partey

While Arsenal have signed Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, Partey still looks to be in his boss’ plans.

The Ghana international started in Arsenal’s first game of the season last weekend, helping his side defeat Nottingham Forest 2-1 from the right-back position.

He was also in the team for the Community Shield triumph over Manchester City, so he is definitely not surplus to requirements.

Partey may not want to play at right-back in the long run, though, while there are no guarantees that he is going to be a starter in midfield.

When you consider that, a move elsewhere has some appeal. Based on what the former Atletico star has told Arteta in the past, however, it seems that he wants to stay in north London this summer.

It would be a boost for Arsenal, who need options in midfield as they try to challenge for the Premier League title again and progress far in the Champions League.

The Gunners have really improved their squad depth by bringing in Rice, Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya. It could be the key to overtaking Manchester City, so selling Partey or any other player who can still come in and do a job for the side could be a step backwards.
